About the club

Hobart Martial Arts Academy are a Martial Arts Academy specialising in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Our goal is to provide a fun, safe and friendly place for men, women and children to train and develop through martial arts.

Our classes, held in Montagu Bay (only five minutes from Hobart CBD), are designed to be inclusive of people from all walks of life and our diverse student base is testament to our enjoyable and inclusive approach. In addition our academy has an exemplary track record in producing successful competitors in Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts.

Hobart Martial Arts Academy’s Head Coach is Gerry Young, a Black Belt under Adam Newton, the first Tasmanian to attain the rank of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt. Gerry oversees a team of excellent coaches who deliver training with a focus on the best possible outcomes for the student.

Hobart Martial Arts Academy is affiliated with Maromba Academy Australia under the Head Coach Thiago Stefanutti, a 3rd degree Black Belt from Brazil. Members are offered the opportunity to regularly train with Thiago. Hobart Martial Arts Academy also has relationships with academies in Sorell, Launceston, Orford and Ulverstone and has regular training with all of them.
